Award winning design

Achieving another fixture in the UK’s sporting calendar, DSA Civil and Structural Engineers, Birmingham office, were involved with the development of a new, premium concourse called The Terrace View at the Holte End of Aston Villa Football Club (AVFC), and surrounding structural additions.

Not only a winning improvement to the fan’s experience at the club, but Aston Villa also scooped the Concourse Activation Award at The Stadium Business Design & Development Awards 2023 in Manchester for The Terrace View facility.

“It was a big project, and we have created a great experience for the fans, which is a real testament to the team involved,” said Villa’s James Lamb.

Gangways and vomitories

If you’re wondering what a vomitory is, it’s the opening into the stadium where large numbers of fans enter and leave. Knowing that the word derives from the Latin word vomitorium and the verb vomo, vomere, ‘to spew forth”, the connection with a more common use of the word ‘vomit’ becomes clear! Anyway, we digress!! Our structural engineers supported AAVFC with essential changes needed to the vomitories and gangways at the club, further adding to a safe and enjoyable visit to the stadium for fans.
