Emergency help for the Ukraine

Posted 12 Sep 2024

Two years of full-scale invasion has had a devastating effect on millions of Ukrainians and those still living there are desperately in need of humanitarian support as ordinary life remains out of reach.

Associate Partner and DSA Civil & Structural Engineers founder, David Smith, wanted to help. Working with the Northampton Becket Rotary club, the Towcester Rotary Club, and the Lviv Rotary Club in Ukraine, David helped to organise the fundraising and purchase of a second-hand passenger ambulance, which was then modified to have the passenger seats removed and a stretcher installed.

Thank you Northampton!

With a big local push on Radio Northampton, with Bernie Keith and his Production Manager Sarah, David was able to spread the word and raise awareness of this humanitarian effort and much needed ambulance.

It wasn’t long before the wonderful people of Northampton got behind the initiative and the ambulance was so ready for David and colleagues to drive it across Europe, taking in France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Poland and Ukraine.

As well as delivering the ambulance, David and team filled the ambulance with donated items all in high demand in the Ukraine, such as winter clothing, wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, lifting frames, along with a few small generators. This humanitarian aid package was gratefully received by the people of Ukraine and a very humbling experience for all involved.
