Conquering Kilimanjaro
Posted 14 Feb 2025
Here at DSA, we’re used to dealing with huge structures and overcoming big challenges, which probably explains how DSA Associate Hitesh Jethwa recently conquered Mount Kilimanjaro. As Africa’s highest peak at 5,895m, Kilimanjaro is the highest freestanding mountain in the world, and breathtaking in so many ways.
Hitesh said, “The climb was a life-changing experience. A journey through diverse ecosystems, from tropical rainforests and moorland to alpine deserts. My determination carried me through the physical challenges, allowing me to experience unique flora and fauna, spectacular starry skies, and stunning landscapes. One of the most memorable moments was reaching the summit at sunrise, where I witnessed stunning views of Mount Meru and its dramatic shadow cast across the plains. From the rainforest at Machame Gate to the summit at Uhuru Peak, every day brought awe-inspiring views and unforgettable moments.”
After a postponed trek in 2020, Hitesh completed the Machame Route in February 2025, together with friends from the University of Dar es Salaam. His sincere thanks go to the incredible support team of guides, chefs, and porters.
So, what’s next Hitesh?!
