Temporary works design at the MotoGP
Posted 12 Sep 2024
Life at DSA Civil & Structural Engineers Northampton got a little more exciting when we were asked to get involved at The British Grand Prix MotoGP 2024, by Silverstone Circuits Ltd. Why would a structural engineer in Northampton be involved with a Grand Prix MotoGP you might ask? Read on.
Festival engineering
The Grand Prix MotoGP is part of the FIM Grand Prix motorcycle racing season and takes place at Silverstone, Northamptonshire, every year. Indeed, it is the most important circuit on the race calendar for the global F1 series and now a part of a huge festival event. Almost overnight, a huge temporary festival village is created including an FMX Show Compound featuring bikes, snowmobiles and stunt shows, access and pedestrian structures, as well as a main stage for bands and artists to play. Like any live event, the logistics and infrastructure around ‘safely’ setting up and dismantling the festival is mind-blowing, and highly complex, so who better to ask to help than our temporary works design engineers from our DSA Northampton office.
Safety inspections of temporary structures
Our temporary works structural engineers were responsible for the structural inspections of temporary footbridges, temporary grandstands, large marquees, big tops and multimedia screens, as well as the main stage, front of house and disability ramps.
We’re delighted to say that our temporary works expertise helped ensure the event was a huge success with lots of fun had by all.
